The scenery was cool since we were out in this general area but wouldn't come just to see it. The restrooms are available in a building. There are a few picnic tables but with zero shelter. It was very hot and with no shade. I do not recommend coming in the heat of the day during warm months. Make sure to bring plenty of water. The views are absolutely beautiful. There are two trails to pick from. One is a half mile overlook and the other is just over a mile but none of the trails go down in the crevice.
Amazing state park tucked away in western Kansas. Stayed at Lake Scott State Park to camp and visited here as a day trip. A couple easy trails in the park. No shade on the trails so bring water and plan accordingly.... Like not doing it in the middle of the day during July.
Great short trail! It was an easy walk for us, but we walk trails often. It was so pretty! We were a little sad we couldn't go down into the canyon, but that would destroy it since it's chalk, so it's understandable. We traveled 4 hours to see it, and it was worth it!
A unique area in Kansas, that’s a beautiful merging of desert & prairie, full of diverse plant & animal life. It is breathtaking. Very glad I was able to see this.
Very cool place in NW Kansas. Who knew? It's like the Brice or Grand Canyon of Kansas. Not a lot of hiking trails, and you're not allowed to go down into the canyons, but well worth the stop if you're going by.
Great 30 minute detour off I-70, especially if you're making a long cross-country trek & want a scenic place to stretch your legs.
There are 2 trails: the Overlook Trail (.25 mile with 1 scenic overlook) & the Life on the Rocks Trail (1.2 miles with 2 scenic overlooks). Highly recommended completing the Life on the Rocks Trail for the best views if you have the time. And both are dog-friendly!
Keep in mind that the bathrooms may or may not be open during the wintertime due to freezing conditions.

Definitely worth the stop. Great to see and lots of information about the area, native animals, plants, etc. There are a couple of hiking trails that take you around the top section. You don’t get to walk around in the structures.
Beautiful and just as described! You cannot get close, but there are benches to take in the beauty. This was once a sea, dating back millions of years. Think about that!
